British Virgin Islands. There are few things I love and cherish more than a good palm tree. Pretty sure I was screaming “DON’T MAKE ME LEAAAAVE” while this photo was being taken.

I’m definitely someone who loves to experience a destination through food and drink, so my recommendations are heavy on the restaurants, bars, hotels, and nightlife - less so on the nature-y side. Unless being on a boat counts as nature, in which case I am a certified naturalist.

When you’re not planning your next big trip, check out some of my recipes as well - I also worked in recipe development and food blogging for a long time so I like to balance my indulgent vacations with simple, healthy home cooking inspired by my travels.

Speaking of home, I’m from the west coast (best coast) and currently reside in sunny San Diego, CA. I’ve also lived in Seattle, WA and Austin, TX. I have a husband, two dogs, and way too much colorful athleisurewear.

Enjoy my site, reach out if you want more travel recs or advice, and as always… live it up!

welcome to teachout travels!

Hi! I’m Emily Teachout. If I were incredibly corny maybe I’d say I’m here to TEACH you how to get OUT and live your best life exploring the world and tasting the topics, but instead I’ll just say… this is my travel site!

I’ve been blogging about food and travel for about 10 years. Travel runs in the Teachout family and I’ve also built my career/day job around it, first working in events (lots of travel) then hospitality marketing & PR (even more travel). I’m partial to warm climates featuring beautiful beaches, or at least a sparkling pool. But I’m down to check out almost anywhere I’ve never been before, near or far.

Oahu. Eating a giant mixed plate of short rib, shrimp, steak, and double mac salad in a parking lot post-beach and pre-more beach. All in all the perfect day.
